  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves governance of company terms and conditions, keeping up to date with legal implications and changes in legislation which may impact said terms and conditions, and managing the reward aspect of an employee's employment with DHL i.e salary review, benefits and other associated benefits attributed to their role and grade

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have really developed my ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the business to ensure the desired outcome for all parties. This can be via various channels such as in-person meetings, Teams or via email. I have learnt how to project manage through my work on new policy development.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed the experience of doing an apprenticeship as it has taught me vital skills such as time management and the ability to determine and work towards clear priorities. At times I found it difficult to dedicate the right amount of attention to each aspect however my ability to do this developed as the course progressed.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme itself was fairly well structured however I believe there could have been more structure from the training provider, as at times it felt like I was alone in the process and receiving several mixed messages. DHL provided stability from their side however which was gladly received and I believe instrumental in me achieiving the grade I did.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support from my employer was excellent. My line manager in particular was very helpful and understanding in terms of allowing me dedicated time to complete any apprenticeship tasks, and this I believe helped to really calm me down in times of stress and worry. I am grateful to DHL for offering such a structured programme.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support offered from my training provider was not great at times. The whole process felt disjointed, and during the 16 months I had 4 different mentors which did not help with my confidence as they seemed to not communicate with eachother. The mentor I had for the longest period was also not very responsive and I did not find them helpful when I had queries, so much so that I relied on a whatsapp group chat for our cohort more than I did the training providers. The quality of teaching was also of a mediocre standard and involved mainly reading from a powerpoint with minimal interaction.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has really helped me succeed in my role and has helped me gain a promotion to a more senior and specialised role within my department. It has provided me with skills in managing a project and allowed me to work independently to achieve the desired outcomes, and also helps with internal employee relations

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a wealth of networking opportunities in DHL that are offered to all employees and are instrumental in building relationships with people around the business in the UK that you may not normally have exposure to. I am aware of a few sports teams at certain sites/departments in my company although I don't partake in any.

  • 9a. Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The career opportunities at DHL are second to none, and I have already progressed in my short time here thanks to the available opportunities and the support from higher management. DHL also offer modern facilities and a competitive benefits package which really demonstrates how much the company values its employees

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
  • Don't be put off by the size and scale of the company. You are treated like an individual at DHL and not a number. Your line manager will recognise your contribution to the business and hard work will always be rewarded. If you want a company with good career progression opportunities then DHL is for you.
