  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an engineer, largely working with internal and external team to develop mechanical system designs for buildings. This involves simulation modelling, preparing presentations and calculations for design meetings.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Developed Excel and Python skills for calculations and developing tools. I have learned to use energy modelling software as well as developed a foundation in mechanical building services.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme has been enjoyable and useful in developing core data analysis skills. The course has allowed me to devote time to developing fundamental Python skills which has increased productivity in my current role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been well structured, but sometimes difficult to balance with my existing workload. Working alongside other apprentices within the company has been a highlight of the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have been provided time to complete the apprenticeship from my employer, and support regarding projects to complete the apprenticeship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lots of support, particularly via the 1-1 coaching sessions that I have received.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Has allowed me to develop fundamental Python skills that has been used to develop useful tools for the mechanical team. Has given access to a toolbox that can hugely improve my productivity in the workplace.

  • Yes.

  • Yes

  • The people who work at Arup are motivated and kind. It has one of the best company cultures I have had the pleasure of experiencing, and have felt genuinely supported in reach both my personal and career goals.
