  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I undertake meetings with colleges and clients. I often work on CAD software such as AutoCAD - carrying out job specific tasks. I have a lot of responsibilities on my selected projects and my team really value my work. I work across a team which focuses on city infrastructure, however there is the opportunity to move to a more water/ dams focused team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme. It was the best decision I ever made! I previously attended a sixth form and dropped out after 1 year to start this apprenticeship and I have never looked back since. This programme is allowing me the opportunity to grow as an individual in my chosen industry.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is well organised. I work across a number of projects during my 4 work days and I attend college once a week on day release. Once every 6-8 weeks I meet with my training provider and this keeps me on track to achieve my apprenticeship in the allocated time frame.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer provides me support whenever I need and always goes the extra mile to ensure the support is helpful and meaningful.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is the only thing I am not 100% happy with. My specific mentor is not reliable and tends to stray off topic which limits the amount we can get done in a session. My mentor does not keep in touch between our sessions which can make me feel like I have been left in the dark. This apprenticeship can be very demanding and the extra support from my training provider would be highly valued.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My college work helps me a lot when it comes to performing my role. I am constantly learning more and more which helps me gain a better understanding of what I am doing and why I am doing it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I attend team social events once every few months. My team often goes out for food in the city and socialises. I also attend office breakfasts which are a great place for networking.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Arup is an amazing company to kick start your career. They value all of their employees and respect everyone equally. It is a great place to work!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • When applying for Arup, consider how your past experience links to the job role you are applying for. This experience does not have to be professional and does not need to directly link to your desired role, it just needs to display your skills and show who you are as an individual. And remember to be your enthusiastic self!
