  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in ICQA. My role involves using a hand scanner to count inventory, record it and place a record of damages so they can be rectified by a problem solve associate. Parts of my role also involve collecting damaged goods and recording good that have been found for resale.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned many new skills in my apprenticeship from stock taking, pallet truck training to be given lots of responsibility on the safety side of my role. I'm currently fire Marshall trained, first aid trained and I have ongoing training in health and safety in the work place.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the opportunity to learn areas of Amazon, whilst being able to gain a qualification along side my role. I enjoy the group sessions getting to know other employees, training alongside them. There is still lots to learn which is interesting and I hope to continue in the future

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is structured well and there is a lot of learning to complete. Through doing lots of cross training on different areas it is easy to get through the program and complete the work on time. The hardest part is getting through maths and English along side everything else.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Quite a bit of support but not enough in the beginning. Not having enough managers and team leads aware of the responsibility of the associate, their apprenticeship requirements held many of us back in completing work on time and a high standard. Having set times on task would help greatly.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I had lots of support and understanding when I needed extra help or had fallen behind on work. They gave me realistic goals to achieve and also liaised with my employer for time to complete work on time. They are always flexible and willing to help with advice and support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me perform better because I have been able to learn lots of roles that run along side eachother. I have a huge understanding of how my warehouse is run and what the difference roles involve. I have gained knowledge in many areas and the confidence to learn more.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not that I am aware of. I frequently check the notice boards, I have not been made aware of any extra curricular activities. I have not heard of any other associates joining one. I think because of the nature of our role it would be hard to find the time.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Amazon because there are many benefits that they offer. The pay is weekly and the shift pattern is great if you only want to do 4 shifts a week. There is there option of day or Nightshift so it can fit around your responsibilities and family life.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon?
  • If you are the proactive type and love to learn new things, then go for it. It is a physically demanding job so look after yourself and you will do great. There are some opportunities to grow and step up if you do the work it can be very rewarding.
