  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role varies depending on the contactors, what was done the day before and what emails need actioning, one day I can be working with a contractor ensuring they have the correct materials for the job, the next I could be in the factory in an overseeing role

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I’ve definitely developed and learnt many new skills. Before I wasn’t very confident and now I can oversee a group of people to ensure they have what they need to carry out the job. I can now also challenge when something isn’t correct, I’m also learning new things every day

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has its ups and downs, on occasions I have wanted to leave but in the long run it’s been good, being able to meet so many different people and learn what they do and get to experience their role whilst getting a hands-on with their work helps you to understand what it’s about

    7/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I’m my opinion the programme could be more structured and organised as some of us feel like we’re left in the dark and asking questions. We feel as though we shouldn’t have to ask the type of questions we’re asking, but so far it hasn’t been too bad

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In the first year I was in college, therefore I received more support from the college rather than the employer, the second year I’m in the work place, although I don’t see my direct managers, I have ones that I can go too if needed, I would like some more though

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Each week we get allocated time to work towards our qualification with College on a Monday and during the week, whenever we have time we can do our work towards our qualification however, sometimes there is a need to do work towards my qualification outside of work which sometimes eats into my home life

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as though my work towards my qualification doesn’t have that much relevance with what I do in my job role as I’m more office based within College. I’m learning more electrical and mechanical and I’ve done some welding which in the long run isn’t what I’m doing.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • In the workplace we have networking events. These events for everyone to join with more specific target audience for some of them such as a neuro diversity network but anyone can join needs to learn more about how they can be supported in the workplace. Within teams are also social activities that we do

  • 9a. Would you recommend Babcock to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I’d recommend Babcock to a friend as he is a great way to learn and earn money and gain experience at the same time. Whilst there has been some times where I wouldn’t. Overall I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to go down this route as it is also fun and enjoyable.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock?
  • The main tip that I will give to anyone applying to Babcock is to always ask questions and always ask if something is needed doing asking for more work helps you stand out and be seen by managers. There is also opportunities for cash rewards and vouchers for food and clothing.
