  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Electrical apprentice at Babcock. I am a 1st year higher level student which involves me in full time education at city college Plymouth. I have multiple exams and assignment to do as well as this i and my team get involved in projects in which we create many different things.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills around the electrical engineering sector from the basics in classroom to making circuit and more advanced motors in the workshop as well as this I have developed existing skills in my English and maths due to my lectures and exams that will be coming up soon

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I would say I enjoy the program and its variety of different aspects. My lectures are helpful and Babcock has supported me well in achieving my goals and learning. There have been challenges in the apprenticeship but they have all been overcome and it has made it rewarding experience overall

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship has been well structured and has been given a clear outline and timetable which makes it easy to know what is coming up but sometimes has lacked organisation but this has been overcome by just reaching out and trying to solve the issues with a contact which I have had to do on occasion

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have receive much support from my employer in a range of different areas from being able to easily get into contact as as well getting give courses on not just job related info but life aspects which have helped my own personal development and made doing my job easier

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider has been very helpful and whenever I need info from them to help with questions or taks they are very approachable and easy to understand and this makes it easier to gain my qualifications as I can prepare for my exams easily and with all the support I need

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualifications I know will help me in my job roles as this has been explicitly explained to me However as I haven’t fully started my day to day job role I can’t give a full opinion on this matter as I have r actually started it yet

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • So far I haven’t attended and extra curricular event that Babcock have put on other than the training courses but I have done some of these extra curricular activities with other colleges from the company which has been very e joyful and easy as the other employees are very welcoming

  • 9a. Would you recommend Babcock to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend this due to a wide range of reasons. Firstly it is a good paying job for people of my age and has gods progression also the rewind and qualifications gained are very useful and be transferred and this will help me through my career so this is why I would reformed my apprenticeship to a friend.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock?
  • I would recommend that you keep an open mind as during my short tenure at Babcock I have had many different conversations with employees about potential progressions and this can be very different based on why I want to do which gives me a lot of comfort in knowing that there is many different paths I can take.
