  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • i work front of house so i make sure to check people in, upgrade their meal deals at reception, book in tables for them, check room types, serve at bar. i’ve also recently taken the job of an assistant housekeeper which has given me confidence in room types and leading people.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i’ve learnt how to deal with customer complaints in a calm manner, i’ve learnt how to communicate with guests, the apprenticeship gave me a huge confidence boost when it comes to guests and even picking up the phone, before i was timid and unsure about certain things but now i know i have the confidence to do my job well

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • it’s been brilliant since the start, my apprenticeship tutor was amazing at sending me helpful links if i was struggling, my manager had helped me a lot to develop at work, it’s been a great journey. i even told my apprenticeship tutor that i already went to move over to the next one as i enjoy learning and this apprenticeship has been so fun to be a part of

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • very well, each month i had courses to complete and my tutor on top of that was sending me additional things to do, as i was very fast and was way ahead of my deadlines, so it was a really good layout and i could text my tutor any time if i was struggling

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • the reason why i gave this a 5 is because, my deputy manager, the one i have as my mentor, wasn’t really present in my apprenticeship and that’s mainly because he didn’t know what it was and didn’t really care for it. but my hotel manager she really stepped in as she’s doing one herself so she knows what the apprenticeship is like and what it consists of

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • huge amount and i don’t think i could ever thank my apprenticeship tutor enough, she was communicating with me every step of the way, ensuring me i’m on a good track, sending my helpful materials and in general being such a good person to talk to, it was always a pleasure to have meetings with her and they were frequent

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • as i said before, the confidence in my skills and myself are not what i would get if it wasn’t for the apprenticeship, i genuinely learnt a lot about what i am capable of and how to deal with situations outside my comfort zone and be better at my role

    10/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • n/a we don’t do anything like that, i know that managers sometimes travel up north for their trainings and whatnot but for us not necessarily no.
