  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I was undertaking a role as project support officer which involved the support and coordination of project and programme delivery for an agile delivery of IT technical product.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes i have developed my written, analytical and presentation skills. Being organised is something i was already aware of , but the apprenticeship helped to focus that effort and put it in practical context. My project also allowed further development of ideas within the team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Initially i felt like it would be a lot of online learning and E material. But after meeting my skills coach i was able to take a bespoke route through the programme and fit the aspects around my own needs. In the end i found it very useful

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme allowed some flexibility in the approach to learning and casework examples for portfolio. I found it organised and structured where needed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer was very supportive in my efforts and allowed adjustment when required for exams and sessions.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My skills coach and learning coach were some of the best teachers and supporters i have been involved with. I am sure that without their level of knowledge and experience i would not have achieved the result i did. They were extremely flexible with their time too.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My role and qualification go hand in hand and the qualification has provided the opportunity to progress quicker than normally. I also benefited from the exposure during my project, allowing that knowledge to be transferred to other activities i was doing at the time.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Our business did have an apprentice network on Teams, but i did not utilise it as my own team environment allowed me to interest with experienced project managers at ease.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The support and training available when in an office environment is exceptional.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Home Office?
  • Do not worry about the initial effort laid out. If you are committed the flexible working that is available for training will be provided.
