  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Most days I am working under a project planner, helping them update schedules, produce schedule update outputs, and learn more and more about the processes, becoming more independent as I build up the experience and skills to start managing some project schedule updates on my own.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learned a lot of new skills, whether those are understanding project management industry on a high level as well as some drilldown examples, such as the coursework and my experience in Planning and Controls shadowing and learning. Plenty of soft skills learning as well (Employability skills etc).

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • There is much I enjoy about my programme and much I am grateful for in it, but a lack of communication between my employers and my learning providers can make it difficult to resolve issues and be on same page on what I need to do, that can cause stress.

    8/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think it works overall but again coordination issues can cause gaps in what I need to do, and can impair the value I am getting out from the apprenticeship.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am supported very well from my employer to perform and manage in my job role both professionally and personally, as well as looking out for my wellbeing and allowing for medical needs and disabilities.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Not much in the way of anything substancial to be honest. I feel like I have to shake out of them what I need to do, then clutching at straws to be on the right track. I works out eventually but isn't ideal for maximising my performance for coursework.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think there is much in the coursework that will help inform my knowledge and prove my understanding of the project management industry I'm in, however, much of it is high level or broad, and often doesn't apply to my job role. All good for CV building (Careers).

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have two volunteering days as part of our employee contract, often involving ecology management on our water assets, which is good to help with and get out with Severn Trent Rangers. There are some sporty groups at work but you have to ask around otherwise you wouldn't know.

    7/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Severn Trent to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because support, training and stability are provided, with a sense of purpose and belonging in a friendly and welcoming company. Good for either securing stable long term work or spring-boarding in contractor based working, there are options a plenty.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
  • Be sure to regularly contact them in the recruitment process to minimize any issues starting the job or getting paid correctly (Tax codes and such). Take initiative and offer to help learn or do tasks. Buy into the shareshave scheme as that will give financial security for the future.
