  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Within my role I am required to learn a variety of skills as an 'Apprentice environmental Practitioner' this includes, permitting, mapping on GISST, collaborating in projects, ecology, chemistry, regulatory legislation and guidance, working on excel, emails, lots of meetings and following modules adhered to me through Keele university over the next 5 years.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new and existing this includes - Use of specific software including GISST and Excel. Working in collaboration with others in projects including negotiations with external areas. Teamwork Working independently Managing own work load and meeting deadlines.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme I feel that I have been able to extend my knowledge by working on the job and doing distant degree learning. I also feel that I have been able to network which is something I really enjoy, I was asked to join a careers fair event (something I had only done once before), but this gave me the opportunity to pass my enthusiasm on to young students that aspire to work with environmental sciences.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised, I feel that I know what is going to be happening over the next 5 years which has given me re-assurance on what my next steps are to be within the company during my apprenticeship and after my degree.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel that I get all the support I need through my line manager mentor and team. I feel that everyone really does care for each other no matter what team you are in and I also feel that the university I am studying with over the course of my apprenticeship is supportive.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • All the support you could need, if I have any questions the lecturers are only an email or teams call away which is really good for distant learning.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the modules I study or are going to study are helping me to become more knowledgeable in my field of work. I feel that this helps my confidence in my role every day.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is so much extra-curricular activities that my workplace offers that can help you get into networking such as cycling challenges for charity. We also have an academy which offers lots of training to help upskill yourself in any field area of work across the business.

  • I would recommend Severn Trent to a friend because it is the best company I have ever worked for, and they are so supportive in your development.

  • The best advice I could give to anyone applying for Seven Trent is; if you are motivated and enthusiastic about making a difference, then dream big and apply, anything is possible when you put your mind to it.
