  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a technical operator and my base location is Llwyn Onn in Wrexham. My role consist of completing daily tasks like chlorine tests, pH tests and aluminium tests on the water and plenty of other jobs that need to be done around the works on a day to day basis.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed a lot of new skills since I joined Severn Trent (Hafren Dyfrdwy). I have learnt a lot about chemicals that are used in the water treatment process and I have learns a lot of new things about reservoirs and how water is stored once treated. I have also learnt a lot about the actual water treatment process and all the steps that are involved in the treating of it.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme a lot. It is so much better than having to attend a college and study A-levels like i did last year. I feel that doing an apprenticeship has allowed me to boost my knowledge and has definitely allowed me to gain a lot of skills that i can use in later life with whatever i go on to do.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured and is being run very well. We are being given the right tools to be able to learn and all the correct training is being given to me since i started in the role. I feel it can only get better as time goes on over my apprenticeship.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have been given a lot more support recently and I have been given a lot more resources in order for me to boost my skills and knowledge about the water company. I have also been given a lot more support by getting out the main plant in the recent weeks. This is really beneficial for me in this role.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider has given me a lot of support since the start of my apprenticeship. He is always wanting me to do better and grow as a person in this company. The resources he has provided me with have also been incredibly helpful as they all help me complete my assignments and stay up to date.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification is allowing me to perform a lot better because it is boosting my knowledge massively and allowing me to do a lot of different things around the works. It has also allowed me to complete a lot of tasks on my own instead of having to complete them with some of the lads.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are lots of different activities we can take part in like football matches, FPL leagues and plenty more. These are all really helpful for us because they are great ways to boost confidence and make new friends and build relationships. This is definitely good for me because it has allowed me to get more involved with the lads

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Severn Trent to a friend because they are a very good and supportive company. I have felt part of the team since i started in Wrexham and I havent once felt that i dont want to come to work. It is great place for me to work and i hope to stay for the rest of my working life.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
  • I would say that its best to be as confident as possible when applying and always to stay focused when learning and doing different tasks as it is the best way to boost your knowledge. I would also say getting stuck in is a very good thing to do as getting hands on for me is one of the best ways to learn new things
