  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently completing a level 6 degree apprenticeship in Marketing management. My role in my organisation currently involves planning, creating and posting content internally promoting the NHS insight tools we offer to colleagues with the aim of increasing engagement. I am also working on a project to revamp a SharePoint site, undertaking competitor analysis and discovering more about the industry as well as the organisation. I am also working with the omnichannel team to develop their new site and increase engagement.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learnt a lot of new skills particularly ones specific to marketing for example how/when to use relevant models, how to write in a business style and how to condense information. I have learnt how to use the different tools they offer at Pfizer. I have definitely developed existing skills as well such as time management and organisation.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do really enjoy my programme; it is something I am passionate about doing and learning more about and find it exciting to actually be in the industry and constantly learning as well as developing. It is hard work and can be overwhelming at times however I guess I expected that signing up.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well organised; you know what is required of you and the time you have to complete it however this can also be flexible to a certain extent. I think a lot of it is independently figuring out what works best for you and how to manage your time efficiently. We have regular reviews and check-ups to ensure we are on track

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • If I needed anything I know I could reach out to my employer and I know who to contact. We receive regular time to catch-up individually with our employers but also with our managers as well which is really helpful to see if we are on track or just to touch base and ask any questions.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive one day a week as learning time however they are very flexible if we decide to spread the time out across the week, I guess it just depends on your preferences. The training provider ensures I have the right and most efficient resources for my qualification and there are plenty of opportunities internaly to speak to people with more experience.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think it has helped massively; I can reflect on what I am learning but also put the theory into practise. I think I am constantly learning on the job which sometimes gives you a head start in the theory aspect as you have already covered it and put it into practise therfore you can just develop the skill more.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, it is amazing how much. They constantly have social events at work from Christmas markets to a bake off, it is a great way to network with people and get involved in activities that are not all about work. There is always someone up for doing something after work and the teams often organise group activities like a quiz night or an escape room. There are sports teams as well which range in skill level so you don't feel pressure if you are new.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Pfizer to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Yes, I would 100% recommend an apprenticeship is a great route that isn't widely talked about. It allows people to receive hands on learning and experience in an industry of their choice whilst working towards a qualification. I think employers expect people to have experience and qualifications which is impossible to get simultaneously if you are fresh out of school or university. An apprentice gives you the opportunity to get both. Pfizer give you endless opportunity to develop and learn and everyone within the business is willing to help you out and encourage you to do your best.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pfizer?
  • Believe in yourself and make sure you have double checked everything. It may seem intimidating and scary as they are such a huge company however everyone goes out of their way to be welcoming and friendly which is also reflected in the interview stage. Show some personality, they must get 1000s of applicants and they don't want to hear the same generic story.
