  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a data analyst I run reports, answer stakeholder queries, develop visualizations for the stakeholders. Develop and QA code, attend meetings, present and learn. I have time set out to complete apprenticeship work - this includes additional learning on QA cloud website and completing course work set out by my course leader.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship program so far is good. In year one it is very basic level IT skills which arent really applicable to the role i do within my work however it gives good background into the work of IT which is then built on in year 2. This is something to bare when applying as at times you have to adapt your work to have evidence for the assignments.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is well organised with a portal where work is uploaded, courses where a lot of information is given out prior so you can prepare and regular check-ins with the apprenticeship leader. The team also are on hand via email or phone to contact whenever required and are very supportive.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Employer has been very supportive during the the program so far. As there is assignments what need to be completed as well as doing the BAU work the employer wishes you do to so theyve been supportive in allowing me to block time in my diary to complete these. As well as very accommodating to my courses that i need to attend and giving me all the help and assistance i need having very little knowledge of the work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is a lot of support also received from the training provider in terms of online portal with lots of learning material and regular check-ins to discuss the assignments and courses. The training provider also takes an interest in the career aspirations so tries to discuss what modules may suit going forward.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Although so far my year 1 has been more IT based than data based - the modules have provided great background into things like security and risk which is something that is hugely important within the world of data so it has made me think more about how i am delivering my work daily.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am part of an apprenticeship networking group, as well as a data networking group and social activities are run within these. There are a lot of opportunities within the bank as there is a lot of activities, events and teams to join. The bank is a very inclusive environment and hopefully throughout my course i will join more.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Each department may be different, however within my department the culture and inclusiveness makes it to be a safe and fun place to work. Everyone is friendly, willing to help and there is so many opportunities for learning and growth. They are also very willing to let you try other areas with the department as they want you to gain experience in something you enjoy.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • When applying for a natwest apprenticeship, ensure the level you are applying for matches what you are looking to get out of the apprenticeship. Get involved with the department calls and networks because they are a massive support in helping you develop a whole range of skills - not just technical ones.
