  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My Job role is a surfacing Supervisor for Tarmac in the central East region for the business, this entails being out on site in various locations. The job role has various tasks such as supervising and overseeing on site activities relating to road surfacing with the Paving gang, ensuring site safety paperwork as been conducted and has various involvement in orders and cost and value reports to the jobs.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • While working with Tarmac I have learnt various new skills and developed my existing skills such as communication this has improved with the job as you are dealing with various different people on site from clients, operatives, sub-contractors and many more. Other skills such as numeracy and IT skills have further been developed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • There are many of an aspect to which I enjoy with the programme I am on such as working in various different locations on a daily basis, encountering new challenges on a regular occurrence. Working with a great team to perform very unique jobs and tasks. And working for a diverse workplace with a strong company culture.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme in which I'm on has been very well structure from the offset as I have been given the opportunity to diversify myself around the company in various different job roles o either form my pathway for the future or to better my knowledge in the job role I am currently in.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Tarmac have given myself a lot of support throughout the programme with having experienced managers, and excellent HR team. From day one they have given me a mentor to help show me the way if I'm ever unsure of the answer. They have been very supportive throughout the pandemic in which I went through within the programme.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Derby uni have given myself a lot of support throughout the programme with having experienced tutors . From day one they have given me a mentor to help show me the way if I'm ever unsure of the answer. They have been very supportive throughout the pandemic in which I went through within the programme.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • In some aspects I feel that the qualification has helped me in the knowledge you gain from academic studies in which I can bring back to my Job role. However some of the learning materials doesn't relate back to what you do therefore isn't as helpful towards using in on a day to day basis.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Tarmac offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities to get involved with such as sporting groups or community activities, charity events in which everyone takes part in. They offer extensive events to be involved with institutes relating to the industry in which you can attend networking events with other businesses.

  • Yes

  • I would recommend Tarmac to a friend because its a friendly yet profession place of work with excellent facilities to both help you develop and engage with having a positive impact on the business. You have the opportunity at every level to express your thoughts and move into different job roles or opportunities.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tarmac?
  • Be yourself and apply for the job you want to do! Tarmac has many different pathways you can go down so if you get the job then your not stuck in it if you don't find its what you want. There are many opportunities and a excellent place to work for.
