  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have joined the Diversity and Inclusion group in Nottingham, which then split up into 3 different teams Culture, Diversity and Society. I joined the Culture team to then be in an action to help raise awareness of diversity and inclusion and show how we support the business and community. I decided to arrange an event in April to raise awareness. There will be a stall and I had the idea of making diverse foods and bringing them in. Laid out on the stall would be posters of the 4 different champions who have made successful events advertising diversity and inclusion and I had the idea to have a short survey with three questions. I thought it would be a good idea to have an anonymous box on the stall so people can put any thoughts in.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt new presentation skills and how to prevent myself. I have also learnt more about the implementation method of a project and the workshops required to launch the tool. Today I have learnt about the cost analysis for a project and how to create a RACI. I learnt about process diagrams. I made a few process diagrams to be used in the business like a change request and then checked the code and made a new process diagram on how to improve it. I found a process diagram makes it more clear to see the end result rather than many lines of code.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed it. I have learnt a vast amount of things in the business. I have also made many relationships in the business and discovered many parts of the business. I also have been able to apply my university knowledge to the workplace. I have been really enthusiastic to work at Siemens.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Siemens is very well organised and has many different sectors of the company to show which you learn. The university is badly organised with no structure and last minute changes. Sometimes the lectures don't turn up or they change the timings last minute. They change the marking criteria last minute as well

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is constant support from the employer. They have weekly meetings to make sure you are doing okay. They have quarterly meetings with the university to make sure they are doing the correct thing. Your line manager checks up on you and you know who to immediately contact if there is a problem.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is loads of support. They are aware of 20% off the job and are very supportive making sure that you are having the correct time and activities to do and any help or training to help on your course. They also make sure you assigned to the correct team as well.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It gives a better understanding and it is really useful to be able to apply the practical side to the role as it gives the best understanding as well as the theory side. This is helping to be able to run projects of my own in the workplace which is really useful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many activities to get involved in like football and the Equality, diversity and inclusion group. Which is really supportive and there are many cultural events to go to and there is a gaming group and a quiz night. Gaming group allows you to get to know people you didn't before

  • 9a. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
