  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently, I'm working towards work level three management in which I will be running a department within a store. This includes scheduling staff and delegating tasks while striving to reach the targets set by your Store manager. I've gained exposure to key business concepts within my work and have had the opportunity to work with highly experienced individuals and gain knowledge on how to progress within my career.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned many new skills in my time so far and have been supported within my learning throughout the program. Within Morrison, I've grasped many concepts from Business management that I will take forward and use within my management style. From accounting to emotional intelligence, I can say that the course has well prepared me for the future.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly have enjoyed the programme so far as the company has made my learning enjoyable by keeping the progress consistently high paced so that I'm always learning more. The early careers team have been able to keep us posted with what topics we are covering within the business and several events have been arranged to enhance my learning further.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been well structured and allowed us to quickly progress within our roles. We have had several individuals assigned to help our development who have been there when we are interested in an area of the business and we want to gain knowledge and insight. Emails keeps us posted in what to expect as we progress.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As mentioned above, the support has been excellent and I feel highly supported in all areas of the business. Mentors have been assigned who help coach us and lead us in development. Meetings are arranged that allow us to express our feelings on the procedures put in place, and they always listen to help our development.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider - the University of Strathclyde - have been highly supportive of me and have ensured monthly 121 calls that give me an indication of my progress. They have facilitated the fact that the students within the course also work full time and tailored assignments to this, allowing for greater quality of work and work satisfaction.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have so far been able to pick out some of the key concepts taught by the University out when working. These range from legal standpoints to simple of management of colleagues, allowing me to put them into practice and gain a greater understanding of them. This makes the assignments easier to write and more fulfilling.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As of yet, I haven't been involved in any extracurricular activities with the work, however, this may be due to the fact Covid was affecting the ability of people to meet outside of work. As the spread slows, I'm hoping more activities can be arranged to get involved in.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recomend this course that Morrions to provide to both family and friends as it really has help push me to become more competent in managing and delivering results with a business environment. I have learned so much and have enjoyed the fast-paced nature of retial, while developing new skills I can move forward with.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Morrisons?
  • The recruitment process for the role was highly intense to ensure the correct candidates were chosen. So I would recommend that individuals applying for the role prepare and read over the material the company provides before the interviews and assessment centers. I would also recommend being yourself, as this allows the company to see your full potential while giving you an indication yourself as to whether you want to proceed.
