  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Executing software tests, writing test scripts, reviewing test requirements and conditions. Working in a team to deliver to our client. Working in the office, or sometimes at home. On Friday is a dedicated day for study where I work at home on my degree work working through the modules.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is structured very well making it very easy and managable to follow and work on. Some of the topics can be a little dry however there are others which are more enjoyable. It all depends on your personal interest. So far I am happy with the programme and support from Uni.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure is the highlight of the course for me so far. It is very well organised and simple to follow along. Each course is split into 6 week modules. Each module is broken down further into smaller chunks which you can work through at your own pace. I have had no issues regarding organisation from the Uni so far.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is more support than you could possibly need. You initially are given a buddy who can answer any questions you have, also assigned a foundation manager which will set up regular calls to discuss and review progress or any concerns. Your peers are always willing to help and task managers on projects are also willing to support with your work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Each course has a designated tutor. They are always available to answer any questions or set up a call to discuss any issues you may have. You have review calls with your manager as well as a memeber of the team from the Uni to review progress and discuss any issues.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification teaches a very wide range of subjects and topics therefore expanding my knowledge and skills. Understanding different aspects of the project can help me better understand how my project works and operates and get a better insight in to how things work at different levels within the organisation.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are so many things going on at IBM that anyone can get involved. There are many business resource groups (BRG) which help target diversity and inclusion. There are giveback opportunities within different workstreams and side projects. You can pick whatever interests you can develop your skills and learning with different people.

  • 9a. Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • IBM is a great place to work. The number one thing is the culture. The workplace is relaxed and welcoming and all different ways of working are welcomed. There are many perks including healthcare and the salary is very rewarding. IBM encourages you to truly be yourself and bring your skills and views to work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
  • BE YOURSELF! IBM looks for authenticity and your personal skills. They look at how you work in a team, how you present yourself and if you have what it takes to become an IBMer. Don't try to be anyone else and make sure you research the company and have an understanding of what we do.
