  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves supporting the project manager on a day to day basis, creating newsletters, helping with resourcing for new project bids, scheduling and hosting meetings. Creating and editing Power Point presentations to be used in internal and external meetings, ensuring the branding is in line with the clients and that it reads well in addition to being visually appealing.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the IBM apprenticeship, finding the right role is key, voicing any concerns is important so that your team understands what you want to take from your apprenticeship and any skills you want to learn. The foundation team is very supportive and all the IBMers I have met are welcoming and want to see you excel in your career at IBM.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised, from your introduction all the way through, regular meetings re scheduled to help ensure you know what you are doing and what areas you need to focus on to achieve your goals. Foundation create learner plans which clearly label all of the learning you need to complete and a guide as to when it should be done by. There is a clear plan and plenty of support.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As an apprentice you have a foundation manager and a task manager, foundation is brilliant at understanding that for a lot of apprentices this is their first time in a corporate job, there is a lot to learn and they are always there got guide you through this. Task managers can be less aware of this and can sometimes assume that you have lots of previous experience, speaking to them and asking them for support is the best way to resolve this and is always taken on board.

  • The support from foundation in providing the training was excellent, the courses were always relevant and very informative, they are receptive to suggestions and will encourage you to work in a way that's best for you. They put a lot of emphasis on well-being too which is important when you're working towards something that can sometimes be stressful.

  • 9a. Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend IBM to a friend because I believe it offers such a fantastic opportunity to get into the corporate world without the need of a degree, university isn't for everyone and IBM understand this, the level of training and real life on the job learning and exposure to business and IT is great.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
  • Be yourself, be confident in your own ability, listen to others and be self aware, it's ok not to have extensive or any experience in a corporate job - I worked in a bookmakers before joining IBM! Be open to leaning new things and identify areas that interest you. IBM have a lot of cool projects, research the company so you can share what interests you and why.
