  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Managing safety, security and resilience risks across a global portfolio ensuring appropriate mitigations are in place to minimise impacts and disruption. Primarily look at people, premises, information and supplier risks. I interact with Facilities managers, business leads, programme owners and senior managers to ensure all are aware of the risks and decisions are taken at the most appropriate level

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As part of the senior leaders degree widened my understanding on how to lead multi-disciplinary teams across different geographies. It has also assisted in the debates and understanding cultural differences within the workplace that contributes to our wider DE&I programme. Personally I have now started utilising both PESTLE and STEEPLE analysis as part of risk mitigation process.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We are permitted 5 volunteering days per year that can be taken as paid leave to give back to the community or any relevant causes. We are just reimplementing social events into the calendar as the majority of these have been virtual for the past 2 years due to COVID but we have some initiatives such as yoga, football and wellbeing sessions already planned

  • 9a. Would you recommend Pearson plc to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The working environment is flexible to allow you to work, study and also have a family life. The work can be challenging but this stretches you professionally. The support from colleagues is excellent and there is always a chance to share a smile with someone every day which is important.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson plc?
  • Expect a large number of interviews, they want to know if you will fit the culture and team you will be working in but this also gives you the chance to explore if it's right for you. The onboarding process can take a little while but is better as we step out of the pandemic. There are opportunities every single day, it's up to you to grab them
