  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the yard area at SEH1. I make sure that all vehicles entering the yard follow all the safety rules and park on the allotted bay they have been given. During this time I have to fill out an electronic GTDR which asks a number of safety questions to ensure that the whole process is carried out correctly.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • This has given me better insight to all aspects of the decision making and how it affects the operation here at SEH1. I believe I would be able to take on much more responsibility now I have the new skills I have developed through the course. I also think it has allowed me to see problems from all sides which means I understand certain decisions that may not always be popular but are necessary to make the operation run efficiently.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As I live over 20 miles away from the work site I have not been involved with any extra curricular activities. I do believe that a number of the team play golf together. I do not have the time to undertake such activities a I have hobbies I pursue in Edinburgh where I live.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • There is a good team ethos at Amazon and I appreciate the colleagues I work with. They are a good friendly bunch which makes the working environment good. There are always things that can be improved upon and they should reward success not failures which is something I feel they do not always get right.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon?
  • Listen to the training and make sure that you talk to the experienced people in the warehouse. That way you will pick up the role much quicker. Do not be afraid to ask questions and always keep an eye on safety. If you spot any unsafe behaviour report it immediately as we all want to work in a safe space.
