  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have. As the particular apprenticeship I am on is both hardware and software related it has provided a grounding in the work I do on a daily basis. For example, the CompTIA A+ has given me an insight into computer hardware components - seems simple but knowing what all of these do and how they interact gives an insight onto how a client's environment is architected. Various software courses have shed light on the Dev Ops and software development world, in that it has given me an understanding of how the developers work and how they use (for example) Agile to get work done quickly and efficiently. Knowing these types of thing has given me not only confidence in my day job. but an understanding of various products that we as Tech Data can offer to partners to help them meet their end customers needs.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love it, and feel incredibly fortunate to have been offered the chance to go on it. I believe that you are never too old to learn, and it is an amazing feeling when your employer not only believes in you as a person, but also as someone that they can take the time and money to upskill. At the end of the day they are investing in the future of Tech Data and I have always believed that something like this apprenticeship program is the way to do it.

  • Tech Data have been fantastically supportive of the apprenticeship program. I have been able to schedule my apprenticeship and my work hours accordingly; however when work gets very busy I am always allowed to make up time on the apprenticeship. Management have been very interested in the progress that I am making on the program and have been encouraging from the beginning - they really want their employees to learn and develop.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received plenty of support; especially with regards to Maths of all things. As I didnt have the required Maths qualification to continue the apprenticeship, GK provided me with a Maths tutor who was instrumental in getting me through the exam. Additionally I have a development coach who I have regular contact with that helps me with any questions/problems that I may have
