  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a supervisor, this includes the overall supervision of the day to day running of the store. Including completing daily tasks and managing the shop floor staff, making sure they get their breaks and keep morale up. I also deal with customers in store and answer the phone calls.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My skills are constantly developing. I thank the apprenticeship scheme for helping me recognise my behaviour and how to change this depending on who you are dealing with. Things such as body language and tone of voice are something the apprenticeship has made me more aware of. This is really important in the day to day job, anywhere.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my apprenticeship experience. It was a bit stressful around Christmas however I got through it and now back to enjoying it all around. My trainer contributes to this enjoyment massively, I get on with [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] really well and I believe that motivates me to work harder as well.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Yes it is very well structured and organised. I know I have a meeting every month and I know what modules and activities I need to complete before the date. The extra help is also appreciated by the trainer being easily contactable through email or WhatsApp. And he answers almost immediately every time which is great.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A massive amount. The support has been great. My manager is there to help and sign documents when I need it, my senior supervisor has been more hands on in store to help with my training and extra OTJ work that has been required for my apprenticeship scheme. Very pleased.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Yeah I receive a massive amount of support from my trainer. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is incredible, he is always there whenever I need something, reachable by email or WhatsApp. He is always so motivating and encourages me to produce my best work each month. Couldn’t ask for a better trainer all round.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe that this apprenticeship has helped massively for my development in my role. I believe it encourages you to take on initiative to progress forward yourself, without having to be massively pushed by other management which they may not necessarily have time to do. However if you just need to ask a consolidation question so they can help and also see you can do fine on your own, I think this works really well.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have a Christmas meal every year, and charity week once a year which we all get involved in. Other than that I have been exercising outside of work with a few colleagues as I believe this is a good way to catch up outside of work also whilst staying fit and also motivating for our work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Iceland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have been there for 7 years now and they have always been so understanding and flexible around my other commitments such as university. I have made some of the best friends here, which I wouldn’t change for the world. Finally, the opportunities for progression and personal development are of upmost standard here too.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • Make sure you are flexible, and committed. Outgoing and confidence are great qualities to have for an Iceland employee. Just be yourselves, be honest, and enjoy your application process. Ask questions to show you are interested and any information you know about the company, don’t be afraid to drop it in as it shows you have done your research!
