  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title at Kier is Business Administrator. My purpose is to provide effective and efficient administrative support. My role includes many different aspects of administration, from liaising with customers and clients, running payroll systems, maintaining records accurately and safely, booking hotel and travel arrangements, logistical and low value procurement and controlling new starters and leavers on our timesheet recording system.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my time at Kier I have learnt how to operate many of our online systems such as our Payroll and timekeeping systems and our project accounting system. I have also had the opportunity to go on a First Aid course and a Fire Marshall training course. There is always opportunities to learn more and a great support system.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme because I get to develop a deeper understanding and gain more knowledge to help me carry out my role to the best of my ability. At times there is a lack of communication with my training providers but this is always resolved. I really enjoy my course!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is split into 10 lessons which took place over the course of a year, I am given a lot of independence between lessons to complete my coursework. I am now on the final push where I am working on my showcase portfolio and end point assessment. I have had some great support from my tutor too.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has been extremely supportive of me during my apprenticeship. I have 1 day where I work from home to complete my coursework ad deadlines and my manager is always very helpful if I have any questions and gives me lots of guidance. My HR team also regularly checks in with me to see ow the course is going and to ask for any feedback.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor has been extremely helpful throughout my programme. I have monthly catch ups with her where I can gain valuable feedback and guidance with any problems and questions I have. My tutor always provides me with feedback to help me try to achieve the best possible grade I can get.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification delves deeper into every aspect of my job role and helps me to understand the things I am doing and the reasoning behind them. It has also helped me in becoming more confident with the things I do and given me some more skills which I can use in my every day job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There aren't many extra-curricular activities for us outside of work, however we do sometimes arrange nights where we will go for food as a team, this has really helped me to build some good relationships at work. I would like to see more social activities in the future though.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Kier have been extremely supportive of me in every aspect of my apprenticeship. There are also many benefits that come with working for a company like Kier, there is opportunity to progress and there is always a way in which you can upskill yourself and learn new things. You also meet some great people!


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
  • Research into the company, look at their values/beliefs and their aims and relate this to yourself and explain how they resonate with you. Look into the opportunities Kier can offer you to develop and progress throughout your career and ultimately, I would say be yourself! Be passionate and excited for the role.
