  • Supporting Business BAU and Change activities to use data effectively and understand their responsibilities with data. • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have enhanced existing on-the-job skills with more formal academic thinking specifically around cloud technology platforms, and data analysis approaches allowing quicker evaluation of standard technology patterns against business challenges. In addition, I am better understanding differing leadership styles and approaches and how to modify them to suit differing parts of the organisation

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is challenging with a twin track approach covering both Technology and Leadership skills. The programme is clear it is based on a 'what you get out depends on what you put in' approach. Frequent reference is made to real world challenges and recent events and precedents to set discussions that are applicable and relevent.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The overall programme structure, including study tracks, modules, portfolio, and end point assessment are clearly explained from the beginning. Initial onboarding had a number of issues, but were quickly addressed using the dedicated contact point and regular 121s provided. Module content is explained and it's application to the programme clear. Assessments are explained with plenty of time to complete.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has been fully supportive in providing on the job training time, finding applicable projects to apply skills learnt, and allowing flexible working to support the varying workload. Approval for the programme was straightforward and funding mechanism simple. Time is also given to share knowledge learnt with the wider organisation.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Time was given within modules and supporting tasks to ask questions. There is a limited approach to allowing fellow students in the cohort to combine knowledge and support each other. My employer also allowed contact with previous cohorts to gain forward knowledge and avoid pitfalls that were encountered previously so they could be avoided.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification (equivalent to MSc) provides an extended technical and theoretical skillset that is combined with knowledge around organisational and leadership theory allowing these to be applied appropriately to the business context. For example, use of proof-of-concepts with defined exit and success criteria, costed solution patterns, and defined operating models when working with 3rd parties or Cloud providers.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a number of student groups and extra-curricular activities provided, but given the nature of the apprenticeship, both in terms of time available and the remote learning, take up of these is limited. It would be useful to extend these to networking events to understand how differing sectors use their learning and also to provide feedback sessions to future candidates.
