  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learned to deliver the EYFS curriculum within independent settings that allow for the child as a whole to be developed and not rigidly focused on certain academic outcomes. Creatively utilising children's interests to maximise learning and fun simultaneously. As well as remaining calm under stressful circumstances being mindful that the educator's actions are always being absorbed by the children in our care.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the children I worked with and made some good friends with fellow colleagues within the workplace. Learning and working simultaneously provided lots of opportunities to put theory into practice and trial out ideas with the children in the room I was working in, which in turn enabled faster progression of what worked for the children and age group I was working with. I enjoyed having four months in each aged room to deliver activities and really appreciate the differences in approach needed for the different age groups.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was a well-structured programme that started with safeguarding and most important caregiving information like signs and symptoms of common illnesses. It provided enough time to fully focus on the learning content, one day out per week really helped, as well as the fact it was a Wednesday because that gave a bit of recovery time from hectic workplace days.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There were other members of staff who provided some information about how the setting ran and daily duties to be completed. I had peer on peer reviews on my relevant skills fairly regularly. The training development team delivered lots of support and information about the pedagogy and high standard education which was brilliant.
