  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a deputy manager at the Food Warehouse my role is to manage the store on a day to day basis including stock control, replenishment, scheduling, people management and cash management. I assist the store manager in the running of the store and opening and closing the store when needed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • In my apprentiship I have learnt how to develop myself and my team. I have taken my new knowledge and implemented this in store. I know more about people management and how to deal with difficult situations. I now know how to follow all processes including health and safety procedures

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy this programme and its helped me develop myself and my knowledge. It has been really enjoyable learning all of the new skills and roles and how I can use this in my job role. Each module has been insightful and helped me to excel in my career

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was really structured and I had access to all information on the website and I was able to see all of my modules up front. The videos were really helpful aswell as the work sheets. I was able to see all of my information clearly and organised in.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is so inspirational and leads by example. She has done the apprentiship herself so is very motivational and continues to develop me and help me where needed. She has given me the time needed to follow out my apprentiship and helped where I need it with it too.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Mirriam has been brilliant and has always given me any support and guidance I need. In our calls she gives me the information I need and helps me know what I need to do next. Process wise she follows all the procedures and guides me to what I need to do

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel I have gained some knowledge in my role and it has helped me to develop myself. I know how to control my emotions and train my staff in different areas aswell as learning new skills and passing them on to other people within the team. This has been great

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are no other activities I take part in at work. Occasionally we have charity events that are organised in store by our rep but this is rare. If that does happen we all follow the rules and try to have fun whilst raising money for a charity of Iceland choice

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Iceland is a great place to work and shop I have been given the opportunity to progress in my role and have learnt several new things along the way. It is a fun place to work and everyone gets along whilst doing the job. All training is provided to the team


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • Be genuine, nice and stay happy. Always thrive to be the best you can be and put 100%into each shift. Personality is key, everything else can be taught on the job including each skill for each area of the store. Interviewing shows exactly how you come across so be nice
