  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a trainee store manager for Iceland foods and I currently run a store in Teesside. I have a team of 15 staff that I manage and coach trying to improve their skills to make the store run better and work towards hitting all the KPIs the business sets.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since I worked through my listening skills module I have started implementing active listening in the workplace and even at home. I feel this has given me a better relationship with my staff as I gain more information from them when they speak to me. It’s also helped me at home in the same way.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I left school and headed into retail as I didn’t want to further my education as it just wasn’t something that enjoyed. I knew I had to do the programme to progress at work and since I’ve started it not only have I enjoyed it but I’ve also taken a lot from it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that the whole lifetime website is not very user friendly and with a better site the programme would genuinely be much better to do. My lifetime coach is really nice though which helps massively, she is really easy to talk to and explains everything really well to me.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Very little if no support at all is given from the employer but I don’t feel that there is any need for them to support ? I mean I get my time within my working hours to complete my apprenticeship but that’s all they give and to be honest all they need to give.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Iceland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think Iceland is a brilliant company and a fantastic place to work. They absolutely love promoting from within because, well, who knows the business better than people that have worked their socks off to climb that career ladder within the business. Also everything Iceland believes in with things like trying to go plastic free is excellent

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • Be honest and hardworking
