  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am training to become a hairdresser so I practise cutting and colour on clients in the salon. I am also an assistant on the days when I am not training so I help the stylists with what they need for example shampooing clients, separating foils, rinsing colour and applying toners. I also welcome clients and keep the salon clean.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned lots of new skills as I had never done any hairdressing before so I have picked up skills in cutting, colouring and styling. I have developed my skills as a team worker and dealing with clients. I have also developed organisation skills as it comes into booking and managing appointments.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed it as it is something that I really enjoy and I am constantly learning and improving. I get a great sense of achievement every time I do someone’s hair and I feel very proud of everything I have done over the last few years so it has been a great experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The training has been very well organised and structured. Assessments and paperwork have been well organised and I have had a lot of support with getting all my assessments done and organising my time. The high turnover of staff has sometimes made it feel less structured as it has felt a bit like starting again each time a new educator comes in.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer as they have provided all of the training and they have kept me in the loop with all my meetings with the educator. I feel like I can always go to them with any queries or worries on any day of the week.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received so much support from my trainers. They make me feel like they are really invested in how well I am doing and also how I am feeling. They work very hard to provide great training week in week out and can help with anything I have a problem with.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification has given me the confidence to keep going with everything I am learning. It has ensured that I have covered a wide range of skills and has enabled me to organise my time well in order to get all my assessments ticked off. It has given me something to work towards.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have been to some extra curricular training courses and to hairdressing events with my work which has made me feel in the loop with the industry and has helped me develop my skills. We have regular social activities with our other colleagues which helps build relationships and a support network.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Saks Hair & Beauty to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Saks has generally been very organised in helping me achieve my goals. The educators have all been very helpful and motivating and constantly check up on where you are at and how you are feeling. They provided brilliant online training over lockdown which was so useful and really appreciated as it was a difficult time for everyone.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Saks Hair & Beauty?
  • Make sure that you are willing to work hard and do lots of extra work outside work hours in order to make the most of your course and achieve the goals you wish to achieve. Always ask for help when you need it and stay positive about the work you are doing and your development.
