  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am responsible for looking after Mechanical packages including water treatment guys. This includes managing there daily activities and helping with any issues that stop them from doing work out on site. I am currently based at one project in Knightsbridge which has a mixtre of retail and resisdential spaces.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained significant communication skills throughout my time working with team members and sub-contractors to set works out and make sure everyone is on the same page. I have also gained technical knowledge in key areas like ventilation and pipework systems. I feel more confident in my ways of working through this.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • As i am working in the office and also out on site, I am gaining key knowledge from both aspects which is great for me. I am learning stuff at university which is helping me in my day to day job and giving me pratical and design based skills

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have regular meeting with my HR manager who is there to offer me support on anything I require. This can include any possible training opportunities or any issues that I have at Uni. I have regular progress reviews which look at areas I need more exposure too in the future.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employers have produced a competancy tracker to allow me to see what areas I need to tackle in the business to further progress my experience. This has included working on the tools for the day with a pipework sub-contractor.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I am currently at University, and my company are fully supportive of allowing me to do as well as possible. Thy give me study days off near exams and have put on tutoring classes in the past to do better in certain modules.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have so far done a NVQ and alos a level 4 HNC at college. These have given me a good understanding of what is required from an engineer and the design staages in construction. Although, a lot of what I learn I do not apply in my day-to-day work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We dont currently do anyhting like that. We have socail events for key mistlestones on a job like the topping out ceremony or getting power on to the building.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They are an inclusive company that are willing to offer you the support and training if you put the effort in. The opportunites you get working on multiple projects around london is great experince and allows you to develop as an engineer.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Skanska?
  • To be yourself and show an interest in the construction industry. Also, understand Skanska's key values and understand what makes them stand out in the construction industry.
