  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am training as an electrical engineering apprentice. We design and test protection and control solutions for use on national grid, and some industry projects

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Lots; as the job we are training to do is very specialised and there is a lot of information to take in. You are constantly learning every day as you have to work with new systems or technologies.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the work side of the program, but the college course has been challenging at times due to fitting time to complete assignments around work, and lack of support from the training provider (support from the employer is excellent)

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well structured, there is a clear direction for the full program and we are given breakdowns of what work we will be doing and in what sector of the business we will be in regularly. the employer plans the apprenticeship out extremely well.

  • Siemens are extremely supportive in all aspects of the apprenticeship

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At times it is difficult to get support from the training provider.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The information and content we learn with the training provider is in not related to our job role at Siemens. However, the skills we learn through assignments are very transferable.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At the time of writing we are in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, so activities outside of work have died off but are starting to pick up again as we get through the other side of the pandemic.

  • Yes

  • It is a great place to work and learn. Everyone is very supportive and I thoroughly enjoy the work we do.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • Research individual sectors of the business before applying; Siemens works in a lot of industries and its important to understand your job role before applying and to decide whether that type of work is suited to you.
