  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • An overview of my role includes a variety of daily tasks such as working on audits of clients and a wide range of entities ranging from SMEs to large companies. Calls with clients are quite commonplace as well as calls with the team to debrief procedures and the audit file.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The new skills that I have learned range from increased confidence to increased technical knowledge. Since I joined the company, I lacked the knowledge and expertise. Now, with the support received from my peers I have been able to learn additional accounting knowledge and further auditng procedures such as planning for an audit and finalising an audit.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my program to a great extent. It has given me great opportunities for personal career development as well as for my own personal development. I have been able to gain great exposure to companies and businesses that normally I would not have found elsewhere. This makes it all really enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The audit programme is structured and organised in a good manner. There are some things which could be improven such as extra study days being given and time off for apprentices, specifically if they are working long hours to complete the audit of a client or audited entity on a tight deadline.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support that I receive from my employer is good. I have been allocated my own line manager who is very supportive. There are also additional speak up channels for additional support and guidance. On the whole the support I receive from my employer is good on a day to day basis.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support that I receive is good. There are study days allocated (although in my opinion these perhaps could be extended to improve work life balance as well as to ensure that apprentices have enough time to grasp the material and debrief all the life sessions), as well as support from BPP tutors.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe that my qualification through my training provider helps me to perform my role to a great extent. It is good to have that external support from another party. There are live sessions in some cases from relevant tutors on topics, forums as well as online tests which help build techinical knowledge to apply it to the workplace.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Given the pandemic, this has been slightly affected. Prior to lockdown, we only just started playing 6-aside football with the rest of the department team. I am also involved in an internal initiative that looks to support young apprentices in their careers and own personal development through being peered up with senior colleagues.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • KPMG is a great place to work. There is great support for peers and there is a great networking and friendly culture. From a professional standpoint, KPMG is reknowned for its professionalism and the opportunities it gives to its people. As a result, these are the core main reasons why I would recommend KPMG to a friend.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • The tips or advice that I would give to others when applying to KPMG would be to not think that you have to be an accountant or have previous accounting knowledge to complete the job efficiently. The support is there. As long as accounting is a field that you enjoy and is something that you would like to pursue, then this should be at the forefront of th reasons as to why oneself is applying.
