  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I complete technician tasks on allocated projects this can be on different software including revit or auto CAD. Work closely with line managers to provide a high standard of work for set deadlines. Produce clear markups for technicians to follow, whilst we rotate disciplines after understanding technician work. ( Public Health, Electrical and Mechanical).

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Revit was already a skill I had learnt from A levels however I extended this through internal training courses which actually taught me a different side to revit which was the MEP part. Communicating in my team has really improved I would always just go to my line manager, however now I would try and find whom the best person is to help with the question whether is be an engineer or a technician problem. Time management has been key as well to meeting deadlines.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme as I am able to learn whilst working which means my knowledge I can put into practice, I am also always engaging with expertise and also CPDs to further my work and understanding. Everyone is always willing to help and even though I have started virtually I feel like I have had the opportunity to interact with all my team through team meetings and individual calls.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Currently due to the pandemic I have not actually been able to fully start my college training, however instead I have started my NVQ assessment and have regular meetings with my training advisor. The on-boarding with Arup, has been very successful with all my equipment being delivered to my home before joining and a full programme of meetings and inductions during the first couple of weeks. There has been continued conversation cafes with other people within my team.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received lots of support, before I even joined I was introduced to my buddy and we have been having regular catch ups and he has been integral to helping me get involved and introduced to other teams and meetings. I have enjoyed being assigned onto a project and have regular meetings with my line manager and mentor, tasks are delegated to me on a regular basis and I can see my progress and how I am making an impact helping my team on the project.
