  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role on a day to day basis consists of carrying out maintenance activities upon breakdowns on machines across the factory. These activities can either be mechanical, electrical or even hydraulic issues that need to be solved. I work in a team of 5 qualified technicians that help me improve and learn while working with them.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Throughout the apprenticeship I have learnt a variety of new skills and I have increased my knowledge of how a manufacturing company works. I have been on training courses to help me improve as well as going to college and completing courses to achieve qualifications. I feel as though I have also matured as a person whilst working here at BMW Group.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Working with the team I'm with on a daily basis helps me enjoy the programme, as i have a really good connection with them and that helps me improve and learn easier. The apprenticeship as a whole has exceeded my expectations and I am so glad I choose this route to go down as a career path.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Apprenticeship As a whole is well organised and is structured well to enable the employees to increase their knowledge and skills the best way possible. There is always support available if needed by anyone that is around especially by your mentor that is assigned to you through the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from my manger and mentor as I have regular meetings with them both to discuss my improvement and what I can work on the improve further. I also have support from the team I work with as they push me to improve and learn the most from being with them daily.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive enough support from my training provider whenever I am in need of any guidance or help when trying to complete any work they provide to me. They will always be willing to help you if you ask them for the support you need as they are there to help you achieve the qualifications you want.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualifications that i am trying to achieve with the training provider does help me with day to day challenges at work so therefore it does help me perform better in my job role. I know more about how mechanisms and electrical components work due to learning about with the training provider.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At work they do provide extra curricular activities that anyone can get involved in, such as cake sales to help raise money for a chosen charity, or even a friendly football match between the company outside of work hours. This is carried out local to the business location so it's not difficult for anyone to get to.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend the apprenticeship as it is well worth doing as it will set you up for a perfect career path for the future within engineering. With an apprenticeship you can learn and achieve qualifications whilst going to work and getting paid for it! what else could you want.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • When applying for an apprenticeship here at BMW Group I would suggest just being yourself on the assessment day/interview and share your experiences and interests about engineering and what you have done. The assessment tests are not there to trick anybody, just take your time and answer the question carefully.
