On a day to day basis I am responsible for completing work papers which will be related to a section of the clients accounts for example revenue. I also have to attend daily team meetings with the client, to update them with any queries we may have or for more information.
During my apprenticeship I have learned how to effectively communicate with my peers. This is important in my job role as I need to be able to communicate problems I may have or any queries for the client. I have also learned the importance of being organised and prioritising work.
I enjoy my programme because it has given me the opportunity to work through a series of accounting courses before finally taking the ACA exams which are equivalent to degree level. I have also enjoyed the work, as I have had responsibilities within the team, and been included as a team member despite my inexperience.
My programme is very well structured, we are given a list of exams/projects that we must complete before the end of our programme. We are also given the completion date and relevant study equipment, in order to prepare for the exams. This was communicated to us at the start of the programme.
I received a lot of support from my employer particularly around exam periods. The managers on my job were supportive and allowed me sufficient revision time. They also offered to help with any queries or worries I may have. Overall the support received was very good and made the experience more enjoyable.
I received a lot of support from the training provider. I was given a tutor and they were always available to answer questions or have a call to discuss through any issues I had. They also emailed regularly to update us on our progress through the course and mock exams.
In order to became a fully qualified auditor, I have to be ACA qualified, therefore the exams that I am completing are vital to my day to day role. I have also noticed that topics/key words that are covered in exams are appearing in my day to day role.
I have been a part of a number of volunteering opportunities which has allowed me to speak to students and share my experience within getting an apprenticeship in a big company. KPMG also have sports teams and a gym which members of staff are able to and encouraged to use free of charge.
Yes
I would recommend KPMG to a friend because their apprenticeship programme is well structured and thought out. It aims to give students the best start in their accountancy/audit careers. In a short time KPMG have offered many opportunities which have allowed me to further develop as a person both outside of work and in work.
I would advise others to research into KPMG - there are so many initiatives that KPMG place a huge focus on and showing an interest in these will set you aside from the others. Also show that you are willing to take opportunities that may be presented to you, as this is something of huge importance at KPMG.
