  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • We get routed every morning with trouble, service and installs, the time given for each call is varied depending on the issue. Installs can consist of broadband, Tv box and voc phone. Voc phone is 21st century voice where the phone comes through the hub and not a master socket.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • So far I have been working for virgin media I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I have gained loads of new skills and have had the chance to think for myself and go out on my own. I have been working for them for 4 months and have found everyday is different.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the whole experience with meeting new customers, being the face of the brand that the customer gets to see. Understanding there frustration and trying to keep things moving. You get a great satisfaction when you know you have helped someone or even just giving advise. Most customers really appreciate the service given.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is well structured but is very hetic as working 12 hour shifts and having to also do course work can be hard. We have full support from our mentors, tutors and work colleagues. They are always at the end of the phone and communication is great and puts you at ease.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supporive, when first joining I was added in to a number of what's app groups with managers and field engineer's so they there is always someone to get in contact with. We have team befits twice a week where we are told figures an get to relate any problems we have.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider has been there through email, phone and webex. He has one to ones with me and my manager and sets tasks to do and helps with things when I dont understand. We use smart assor to keep our work monitored so we both can access it and keep track.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel on job training is better then the course work side of things as I learn better that way then reading and writing. My qualification will help me progress in my future as a field engineer and the certificates to provide to my employer or any future employers is nice to have.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is loads of extra activities that virgin media offer such as - volunteering around your neighborhood, you get an extra 5 days holiday's a year to do this. We have afterwork drinks on webex to talk about our week as of corona we have to do it this way. We have days out planned and more.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Virgin Media O2 to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • You feel supported and part of a group that cares about your day and you. You have a good team to teach you the job and teach you how to deal with situations. There is a good bonus scheme and that is paid quarterly. You have a chance to progress.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Virgin Media O2?
  • I feel like you have to be confident and organised and willing to learn. Show you are part of a team and willing to work long hours and more if needed. Speak up and be thick skinned as it is an environment where you see so many different kind of people some happy, some not.
