  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role involves organising training for the restaurant I work in, completing the schedule for over 120 members of staff within that restaurant. I am also in charge of GDPR and the recruitment process. Recently I have also been conducting several discipline meetings and performance management for other restaurants.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since completing the apprenticeship I have developed many skills that I already posses. The apprenticeship has taught me many new things including how to conduct interviews, different types on discrimination and most importantly employment law. This has taught me how to become more experienced in my role and help train others to posses the same attributes.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • To start off with I found the apprenticeship very hard as I have been out of education for around 10 years. Tracking all of my hours in the 20% tracker was the most challenging thing to begin with along with managing my time to complete the weekly exercises. I found the assignments easy to complete and enjoyed some topics more than others.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was well structured with each unit breaking down into weeks. Each week the units would also give you an estimated time as to how long it should take you to complete. I found this very helpful in terms of managing my time around each unit, even if I could just do one section a day.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer was very supportive during my apprenticeship. They allowed me to spend time with my senior human resources manager within my organisation to shadow her and learn on the job so I was able to use this for my 20% tracker. They also allowed me plenty of time around assessment time to get them completed and offered advice when needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Arch apprenticeships were very helpful and my trainer Sarah Smith was very supportive. She understood the difficulties I was facing at different points and offered very good advice of how to get around and over these. She always managed to fit meeting in around my schedule and was very prompt in replying to any emails I sent.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Since completing my apprenticeship in HR management I have found it has given me new skills which I didnt have before. • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At the moment due to the current government guidance there are no extra circular activities to par take in. However, during a normal year my organising provides biannual staff events with each year the events varying. Sometimes they are parties and others are team building exercises depending on the time of year.

  • 9a. Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have worked for McDonalds for the past 11 years and this is my first job. During my time so far at McDonalds I have been fortunate enough to receive several promotions and ample training to be able to perform my role to the best of my ability. McDonalds truly has a people culture and fully supports its staff in not only training but emotionally.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
  • For anyone applying to work at any role within McDonalds my advice would be to be yourself! McDonalds promotes belonging within its restaurants so do not change who you are to fit in. Let your personally shine as no one wants to be served by a robot! Promote yourself in your interview and let them know what you are going to bring to McDonalds.
