  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job involves auditing financial statements of various large clients including a share of the FTSE 100 companies within the UK. We often work within large teams and work is distributed to each person dependent on their experience. We are also provided with coaches to refer to when we need help and the overall experience is very professional and transparent.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have become more confident throughout my placement, for example on client calls and when communicating with my team during meetings. As this placement has been from home, the virtual aspect of working has been new and I think as time went on it became easier and improved the efficiency of my work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is great for any young and aspiring financial minded people. We meet lots of intelligent and experienced people within our roles, and we are exposed to the real-life work environment from a young age. I think the role has been important in maturing me and improving my skills, and I am thankful for it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is organised as we are exposed to loads of support from our Flying Start Champions, our Career Coaches, our Programme Manager and our University. We are often kept in the loop with emails and we are able to have calls frequently when we want, so overall it is very organised.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • PwC offer support in terms of we are all assigned to a Career Coach and we have Buddies who are a year older than us which is great. We are able to set up regular calls and message each other when we need support or to ask any questions and I feel like this is very beneficial when working on placement.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We get lots of support from our training provider when working towards our qualifications, for example we are given training prior to each placement. This involves great coverage from PwC employees and we are able to gather experiences and new skills from them, which is easily transferable in real life work when we join.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think our qualifications are great help when working at PwC as we are exposed to many skills and content which is seen within our work. We are covering similar topics within Accounting and Audit and Assurance for example, and this has proven to be great for me when on placement.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extra-curricular activities in the job, for example monthly office calls and activities. Also, we have weekly quizzes and game nights which are effective in getting to know more people. Personally I have taken part in Football training too which is a great way to keep fit and to meet new people too.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • PwC is a great company with lots of support and exposure to large FTSE 100 clients. It is a leader in the financial industry, and the experience and talent that I have seen over my placement is what makes the job so enjoyable. I also feel there are many opportunities to develop my own skills and climb the ladder at PwC.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • My main tip would be to research and be prepared before applying. This could involve reading up on the news prior to interviews and also researching the company itself to understand how it operates. Moreover, it is essential to stay calm during the application process and take each step as it comes, for example don't feel too overwhelmed and try and be yourself and it should be fine!
