  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to Day tasks include working on various sections on site in order to learn different skills that pertain to the vehicles we repair. This includes disassembling, servicing and Assembling components. We rotate sections every 6 weeks in order to gain a wide variety of skills and experiences.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The use of Power tools such as Band saws, Pillar drills, Lathes and Mills. Learning to recognise parts and components by sight and feel alone and being able to maintain the vehicle as a whole.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the practical aspect of the Apprenticeship and the written work is always manageable. College blocks are enjoyable and are a nice change of pace from working on site. Managers and College lecturers are always o hand to assist with any aspect of the job.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I like that we move from college blocks and site work at a ratio of 3:5 weeks as this prevents complacency and allows individuals to maintain focus on the task at hand with minimal crossover unless it is required.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Managers and other staff members are always on hand to assist with any and all aspects of on-site work. They use their experience to give informed guidance on a multitude of situations.

  • My employer works closely with the College to keep the coarse on track and help us to succeed in our efforts.

  • The college work we do helps us to fully understand and practice work processes used on-site which allows for a more effective workforce.

  • Have a genuine interest in the job and the field before applying, as this will help you acclimate to the work and fuel your drive to perform.
