  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have been an apprentice at RAF valley for 18 months and my day to day duties are providing serviceable aircraft. This is done by removing unserviceable components and replacing them with serviceable components. I have learnt to adhere to a number of processes and health and safety regulations. I have 5-6 months left of the apprenticeship which I look forward to.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since the beginning of my apprenticeship I have mainly enhanced and improved my hand skills dramatically. This has been done by using tools nearly every day and learning different techniques. I have also learnt how to find information needed for relevant tasks and implement them into the work that’s being carried out.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have throughly enjoyed the whole apprenticeship, which has involved working on site and in college. I have made a number of friends and learnt valuable experiences that I will use day to day for the rest of my career. I have also worked in different environments which has lead to an even more well rounded experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been structured very well. I believe that any courses I have undertaken I have been ready and confident for the contents of the course. Because of the structure I have felt that the past 18 months of the apprenticeship have gone quickly and once again improved the apprenticeship.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Babcock to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock?
  • Show good willingness and initiative and always be proactive rather than reactive. Also, learn more about the company and industry before applying to give a good base knowledge.
