  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a professional in a procurement environment I'm constantly learning new skills. Currently I work with a lot of supplier and procurement data which allows me to see the importance and influence this has in the business. I'm also responsible for a lot of the reporting and governance on this project, of course this means working with a lot of power points and understanding governance.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since joining IBM and gaining a role in their supply chain and procurement service line I have gained a lot of new knowledge and skills, I understand how the procurement operations of a business now occur and the problems and challenges they face. In doing this IBM has supported me to become qualified in certain industry tools which will provide me with the plenty of opportunities in the future.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My program offers plenty of opportunity as there is a lot of support from managers, I enjoy my program a lot as I get to work with more experienced individuals than myself which allows me ask questions and learn at a rapid pace. This program is a lot of hard work as I am balancing degree and a role, however it is very rewarding.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of my program is very organised, we often have a meeting with the managers in order to support us and to help us wherever necessary. There is an induction would really helped me embrace the IBM culture and allowed me to pick up consulting skills very quickly. Within IBM there are many places to seek support wherever it be, this could be managers, colleagues and even university.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There are many support structures within IBM, we can often turn to a manager for most issues. There is also a lot of support from the University in helping us with meeting assignments and deadlines which can be very tough at times but all the lecturers are very helpful. There is also a lot of guidance from more experienced individuals in how to grow and and become a lot more experienced.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is a lot of support from my training provider in assisting me towards my qualifications, we often have meetings between my university mentor and my manager in order to make sure that I am meeting all my commitments. This allows me to bring up any issues or problems If I am having any.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • A lot of the modules I study are very orientated towards IT and business, obviously this is a very wide scope but a lot of what we study is very relevant. My provider also offers different specialities depending on what students want to specialise in, therefore this allows me to perform my role to a higher standard.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of extra opportunities to get involved in, you can participate in helping set up a certain department socials and thereafter so is yours after work to help build a better relationship with colleagues. There are also a lot of sporting events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would very much recommend IBM to a friend as it is a very diverse and the opportunities it offers, no matter the level of skill, the support is available making it a great environment for anybody to succeed and do their best. Everyone I meet has also been exceedingly professional and great to work with.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
  • Try to show as much of your interest in IBM, understand the kind of industries they work in and try to find a place of yourself which you think you would enjoy. Also take the interviews and assessment days incredibly seriously, be prepared and do a lot of practice interviews. And don't forget to stay calm and collected as a assessment day can be quite stressful
