  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I run a team of admins for our e-learning platform. I look after our compliance learning, reporting needs for the group, troubleshooting and data input from our HR system via an automated feed. Key contact for the business for new functionality and supporting the learning needs across the UK and Internationally

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Developing my Excel skills, lookups, data merging, comparing data sets, using data to help better inform the execs how the company is performing on mandatory learning, what our gaps are and any potential issues with adherence to KPI's. Using R Studio and SQL Sever to cleanse and analyse data has been a huge benefit also.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Every day is different and I get to interact with a wide range of stake holders daily. My team works well together and we're always striving to improve how we do things and how we can overcome issues before they happen. It's a busy, sometimes pressured role but thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The initial induction was good and I was quickly paired with a learning coach. I'm at the beginning of my apprenticeship and there is a bit of lag between being accepted and knowing what you need to do. I completed the initial assessments and onboarding requirements but once I was into the learning I was away and am on course to finish slightly earlier than initially predicted.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My leader is great at supporting my development. I am in daily contact and we talk about what I'll be doing to fulfil my 20% requirement as well as discussing projects and what i can do next to support my learning. It's also been great to be asked what I have learned and how this can help with certain projects and reports.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • It's been great, the learning weeks geared me up nicely for exams which I passed easily and there are plenty of resources for you to practice with and send to yourself so you can practice on your own with your own data and refer back to the material to help jog your memory.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As we move into a more and more data driven environment, learning these skills now couldn't have come at a better time, helping me automate reports, create dashboards, cleanse data for analysis and even analyse unstructured data such as evaluation data which I never even realise was possible and has helped drive some of the key improvement conversations in the business.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Currently there isn't a great deal to get involved with due to the ongoing pandemic and the restrictions in place around this. I am also classed as extremely clinically vulnerable so I have spent the majority of past two years in my house away from everyone for my own health.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSA Insurance Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I've worked at RSA for 15 years and they have always supported my learning. As soon as I saw an apprenticeship i thought would be a good fit, they moved quickly to get my application approved, arranged an initial conversation to ensure it was the right fit for me. Flexible working as well is a key priority for me and RSA have been very accommodating on this front.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSA Insurance Ltd?
  • It's a great company to work for and there are so many avenues of opportunity to explore. Most people join as phone handlers but if you have a passion for something, there is more than likely a role for you to employ these skills. If you have the drive, the opportunities are there.
