  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to manage the shop floor in the absence of the store manager. It is also to run the frozen section of the store, ensuring the shop is replenished and presentable for customers for the following days trade.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my ability to manage small teams in the store, as well as manage colleagues on a one to one basis to ensure optimal work rate through the team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the apprenticeship programme that I am on, particularly the interaction with my trainer, who keeps me engaged and interested in the work set.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel the work is well organised, and I like how my trainer adapts the programme to best suit my needs. He recognises that I find some of the work too easy, and pushes me to challenge myself in different ways to ensure I get the most from the course.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My store manager always has his door open for me whenever I need help or have any questions. He is very supportive, and checks in regularly with me to make sure I am keeping on track.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My trainer is available as much or as little as I require. He makes sure I am on track, and offers help. There is another person on the course from my store and I have noticed that when she needs help, he is very responsive. He is a great trainer.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that doing this course has made me question certain status quos that exist in retail. This has allowed me to have a deeper understanding of what I do, and why I do them, rather than just mindlessly doing things just because that is the way it works.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At the moment no, due to covid restrictions.

  • Yes

  • It is a good working environment, my employer is very supportive and works around my needs.

  • Be genuine, Iceland likes to promote individuality, be yourself and make it work to your advantage!
