  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is duty manager. But I do 4am - 10am every day as I am doing online picking. This role includes picking customers shopping and packing it in a tidy manner ready for our drivers to deliver it. I also put the orders away, so I make sure fresh goes in the fridge, frozen goes in the freezer and grocery is left tidy in the warehouse in their individual time slots.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my customer service skills. But have learnt loads more new skills. I have expanded lots more skills and allowed myself to learn new things.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really do enjoy my programme. I want to go far in this job role and this programme is helping me do that. My lifetime trainer is brilliant with helping me. He's always at the end of the phone if I need him to help me if I get stuck.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised and structured. My sessions are booked well in advance, so we both know what we are doing. I make sure all my coursework is ready for my session on time. The website is very easy to work your way round.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From my personal point of view, my manager doesn't support me at all. My very first module I done the skills endorsement form and wrote 3 pages explaining the form, when I asked my manager to go through it with me, she didn't even bother to read any of the form let alone my work. The support is quite poor really.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is fantastic. Always there to help me out if I need him. Always there to give me advice if I ever get stuck. Always gives me good positive feedback and makes me aware of what points I need to improve on. Whenever we finish a session, he always gives me a good reaction and makes my confidence rocket.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like my qualification will help me perform better in my role by all the new skills I have learnt. It makes me feel good about myself and makes me feel like I can take on anything and achieve the very best in life.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The only other thing my work do are just raising money for charity but that is mainly one colleague and the store manager. As for the rest of the team, we don't actually have anything extracurricular for us to do.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Iceland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The company is a really good company to work for, I just personally wouldn't work for my store based on my manager. But the company overall is fantastic to work for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • Be willing to put the hard work in. Retail is brutal, and iceland is a very fast paced company but such a rewarding job.
