  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to open up the store ready for trade such as checking that all freezers and chillers are at right temperature. This involves guiding and assisting my colleagues to ensure all orders are completed time effectively as well as being customer-focused e.g. picking the longest dates. Once the orders are completed, it's my role to ensure the store is replenished and ready to trade.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to overcome my fears of speaking over the phone, this may be so small but it means big to me because it means I can confidently answered calls without the stress or hesitation I used to get. I have developed more of my understanding of the types of different customers and how I can positively deal with any situation.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I appreciate the variety of work set in the programme and that is goes beyond my expectations. In work, I really enjoy leading the team and helping them reach new goals and how we all act as family-like! With our company Iceland, age variants makes our culture of family with strong bonds with one another, in which we see each other for guidance, support and laughter nearly daily inside and outside work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Studying, training, online meetings and support within the programme is very well organised by [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], I strongly know that when ever I need guidance she is always there to help and plan for the next step. Task delegation is very evenly distributed to the hours I work and so it makes it very easy to complete without too much stress and being overloaded.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager's attitude towards supporting me is always very positive, he gives me a lot of guidance within the work place and shows me new potential goals. my mentor gives me endless support, I am confident to say that she is nearly always accessible!

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Her attitude towards supporting me is hugely positive and it makes me feel more confident when working towards my qualifications. I enjoy it a lot with Lifetime training

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel well that my qualification helps me to perform better in my role because I am able to connect and interact with different types of customers in a way very suited to them. Also, I feel like I am getting to know Iceland as a company and how it sustains to be here today, I know this by doing my research from completing tasks within the qualification.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At my work there are extra-curricular activities to get involved in such as the big wide company social events, small store social events and our Manager manages a Mental Health swimming CIC that we are all welcomed to come along and to support. When I am not working, I prefer being creative with paints, pencils and so on.

  • Yes

  • I have two colleagues that are recommended by myself because Iceland is a great company to work for with great benefits and growing opportunities!


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • I would advise them that the application process was easy for me and the interview was easier than what I thought. Once you have got the job it is important for you to know the layout of the store and the products we sell, to get to know the customers and the community in the work place and finally to ask for support and guidance if needed.
