  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role involves taking over management roles when there aren’t any supervisors, or store managers in the building. So my role is to delegate tasks to colleagues and ensure legal, health and safety, and stock replenishment is adhered to.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. Since starting in the job role I have greatly improved my leadership and task management skills, as well as basic problem solving and customer service skills. Since starting the apprenticeship I have also been prompted to be more mindful of customer service, personal progression, and improving on my communication skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the program, however I’ve found it difficult due to my time management. It’s also difficult doing everything remotely due to covid. However I have found it massively beneficial to my job role and my personal And professional development.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is incredibly well structured. The tasks are well broken up into different categories, and the information for the tasks is given before each activity.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a somewhat small amount of support from my employer, and sometimes my payed training hours aren’t put on my rota. However when I ask for support on tasks it is given.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Despite everything being remote at the moment, every time I have asked for support or for more time to complete work, my trainer has been understanding and incredibly helpful.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training and tasks I have completed so far for my qualification have all prompted me to improve on my skills related to my job role. This obviously has helped me better my performance greatly.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Before covid there were occasional staff evens outside of work, but due to covid I haven’t been to any of these because they’ve all been cancelled.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Iceland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The working atmosphere is incredibly welcoming, and the ability to progress further is great. For instance, this was my first job and I started as a cashier/sales assistant, but within a year I’m duty manager and working on an apprenticeship to get me working towards a supervisor position.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • Make sure you’re work driven and have the customer in mind first and foremost.
