  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I help out with daily, basic audit tasks. I would help out my team members on various task, and especially my manager. It entails a lot of work on excel workbooks, and communicating regularly with the client to obtain the necessary information that the team needs for the audit work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes - I have learnt many new skills. I have mainly improved my excel knowledge and now feel confident using formulas on excel. My communication has greatly improved and I can now professionally communicate with others, due to regular conversations with the client. This also involves learning how to write a professional email.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme - I feel as though it is very well paid which keeps the employees motivated. It also provided brilliant training through BPP, which enables us to pass our exams without stress. Personally, I feel as though communication with apprenticeship management could be improved, so apprentices are more informed on what is expected of them and when this needs to be done by.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is well organised - our exams are spread out adequately so we have enough time in between to have a bit of variance from studying. Also in this time, we have a chance to develop our workplace skills and learn on the job. It could be structured better if we had a clear outlook on what was expected of us and by when.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Our employers supports us by providing excellent training through BPP, which supports us massively in our studying. Without this level of education, I feel as though we wouldn't have done as well in our exams. I feel as though more communication is required to the apprentices clearly understand what is expected of them and when these different tasks are expected by.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support from the training provider is really good. There are many platforms in place which offer support and these platforms were made very clear to us right from the beginning. The resources provided to us are also very useful, and include everything needed to pass and do well in the exams.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification helps greatly, as it gives me a foundation in the work I am doing. Without the book knowledge, it would take much longer to learn how to do a task. Book knowledge in turn helps me pick up the physical learning on the job skills, so much quicker.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not that I am aware of. There is a volunteering scheme which we can apply for, but that is the only thing I have heard of. It would be much better if there was an apprentice specific networking event regularly, to socialise with people of our own age and make more relatable professional relationships.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • KPMG provides many great opportunities to people who want to go into accounting - it is much better than a degree pathway for finance as it leaves you without debt and the same qualifications, whilst earning money. The qualifications provided are also excellent, and gives you many great career opportunities for the future.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • Do the research before, especially on KPMGs core values as this is a key theme that comes up whilst working there. Read up on the programme a lot so you know what it entails. Be prepared to possibly work hard as there are busy periods that people sometimes have to work in.
