Broker Review

I work for Willis Towers Watson as an apprentice broker and my day-to-day normally involves a good mixture of Client/Internal calls, Learning, producing documents and Data. Almost from the beginning of my apprenticeship my team had me involved in the placing process so a lot of my day-to-day involves getting things ready for clients.

I'm now 8 months into my apprenticeship and I'm still learning new things everyday. This includes a range of knowledge from my studies but also from on the job learning. My team have been extremely helpful in teaching me everything they know about the sector. I've also have a skills coach and lecturer who make sure I continue learning throughout my apprenticeship.

I've really enjoyed my apprenticeship so far. We've been supported from the start which has made the jump from Sixth form to work much easier. I started the apprenticeship with other people my age which has made the social side really enjoyable. The training has all been really interactive and interesting.

I have a skills coach who I have regular meetings with, these meetings help structure the apprenticeship with clear targets and tasks. The apprenticeship is full of regular training sessions. The apprenticeship has been very well organised and If I think I have any issues there's people I can talk to resolve these.

My line manager is almost always available to support me if I have any issues. If I felt like I couldn't go to my manager there's a range of other support systems in place for example my lecturer, skills coach, team members, HR, other apprentices and graduates.

The Growth company has been really helpful with my studies. We have regular lectures towards our qualifications and I can always contact my lecturer if i have any issues or questions. We get given power points and questions to help us learn the content for our exams. The growth company also help teach us exam skills.

I'm currently working towards my CII qualifications. These cover a lot of information about the insurance market. This is really key because in order to specialise in your specific area of insurance it's important you understand the wider industry. The growth company helped explain the industry in easy to follow lectures.

Willis Towers Watson has a great culture with various sports teams and social events to get involved with. There's always things to get involved with at the company. The company also encourages younger employees to join different social networks like the CII under 35s or the young professionals network.

I think Willis Towers Watson is a really good employer for young people because of it's great development opportunities and network of young professionals. When I joined everyone at the company wanted to help me learn and improve and I'm sure they'd do the same for anyone else who joins.

Just be yourself. Go into the application process knowing your strengths and make sure you put them forward. In the interview make sure tell the truth about any weaknesses, the interviewer will like this because it shows you want to improve. Also please make sure you read the job role before you go into the process and definitely before an interview.
