  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the audit department so I will be allocated to a client and carrying out audit procedures such as walkthroughs at interim and testing at final. It involves a lot of liaising with clients as well as real life audit procedures. I a out at client sites most of the time.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes! My accounting knowledge is developing all the time I have learnt so much already in my 6 months at KPMG. Continuous development in time management, teamwork, communication has been a key area as well as being given many opportunities to get involved with more duties around the office allowing me to network.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme. I don't have the opportunity to rotate to different departments as much as other offices which is a shame but I am learning quickly and that is the most important thing to me. I feel valued and the training provided by BPP is very good. It is fast paced and challenging which I like.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well structured. Course dates are given very far in advance and the progression speed is good. As I am slightly older I would like to move through the exams quickly however the speed of the course is designed to progress you at a efficient level to allow us to gain experience from real work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A lot of support. I have many managers I feel comfortable to speak to both within KPMG and BPP. The only downside is my performance manager manages another 200 apprentices across the country so sometimes I don't feel personally managed. That is just what happens in a big company.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive regular catch up meetings over the phone to track my progression and I am given the opportunity to provide feedback. I am given contact details if I ever need to reach out for additional assistance. The tuition they provide has been very good. So far I have had three tutors and all have been very good teachers.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The knowledge I am provided with by my training provider is really relevant to my role and has helped me overcome challenges in my job. I have the background accounting knowledge to be able to problem solve issues without always asking for too much help. This is really useful when working on client site.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes KPMG offer so much extra curricular activities and value you as an employee for getting involved. I have got involved with hosting a quiz night, taking park in a charity climb abroad, planning Christmas parties and sport events. They are really good at communicating this to all employees and getting people involved.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The brand itself is really good to have on your CV, working for a big company comes with lots of perks and I feel truly valued to be an employee. I personally prefer working in a smaller office but there are so many opportunities within the company to progress to other departments and develop your career. They are a very supportive firm.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • Work hard as they will realise what individuals are working for themselves and those working for the company. They will really commit to developing your career if you work hard. Stand out as a person, lots of people apply each year so you need to make yourself be remembered for the future.
