  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in DWF's Professional Indemnity Department. I specialise in defending claims against a variety of professionals such as lawyers, brokers, accountants and medical professionals. This could include responding to Letters of Claim and dealing with claims where proceedings have been issued against our client. I have to advise my client on liability, quantum and the best steps to take going forward

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, over the last 6 years I have developed my skills as a Lawyer. At the start of my apprenticeship I was 19 years old and had no background in law. At the start I would only do simple tasks such as calling the Court and preparing bundles. As the years went on I developed an understanding of the law and the skills necessary to practice in Law. I am now qualified and running my own cases.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • DWF were very organised and structured in the running of my programme. I was able to take one Study Day per week which equated to 20% of my working hours. This allowed me the opportunity to study and allowed me to have a better work/life balance. I was also supported by a tutor from CILEX Law School

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I was assigned a Tutor from my Learning Provider. The tutor would visit my office every 12 weeks for a review meeting. I was also supported by Law Tutors who taught the online webinars. I did find the study weekends ran by CILEX Law School to be of great help in the run up to the exam period

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification has allowed me to qualify as a Lawyer. Without this qualification I would never have been able to call myself a Lawyer. This qualification provided me with a solid grounding and understanding of the law in order to develop my own skills and progress with my career going forwards.
