  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The day to day tasks of my role include taking calls and being there for HSBCs customers. This includes helping them bank digitally through our apps and websites, this can be registering them for the service or just helping them reset a password. I also deal with payments and transactional queries.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The main skill I have improved and developed is the customer interaction skills and the ability to speak with confidence and conviction. I have also developed computer skills such as excel, emails and the systems we use on the job. I have improved my problem solving skills by helping customers who need help.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme as it developing my knowledge of business and retail banking vastly. I enjoy this as i feel it gives me the knowledge to be able to apply for roles that need the Knowledge of retail banking that i didnt have before. i enjoy the time off the phone to study.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation and structure of the programme is ok. At first there were a few issues with the lack of tutor and textbook meant the first few months werent very productive. Now with a new tutor i feel i know what i need to do and how i need to get there.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The employer supports me well, they have ensured even through busy business periods we have been given the necessary time to study. I am given enough time away from the phone calls to work on my Apprenticeship well. If i have any issues and queries there is always someone i can speak to.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A good amount. Since the new tutor has come in i feel i have been given the necessary tools to suceed. The 1hr 30 min meetings help a lot to get all my points across and the help i need. this gives me a clear path on what i need to do and how to do it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel it helps a lot as i have gained knowledge in areas that i wouldnt dream of knowing if i wasnt doing the qualification. this helps the customers journey with less hold time and less transferring to other departments, meaning my performance would be better as customer satisfaction would be higher.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • yes. I have attended a celebratory lunch for HSBC and its umbrella companies to celebrate outstanding work on my apprenticeship. This included a 3 course meal and a chance to meet new people. I have also attended the Brits music awards with work this included a hotel stay a drinks reception and food.

  • 9a. Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a massive company, which to me would mean quite good job security. They have so many jobs available for internal progression to suit everyones wants in a job in the banking industry. they have good support for the LGBT community and big advocate for improving mental health through confidential lines and support groups.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • Be confident, Be yourself, Be prepared for the recruitment process (so telephone interview prep, Face to face interview prep and an assessment prep.) Work on examples specific to the job role. Look at the job specifications and requirements and tailor your preparation arounf that. Even if nervous for the job role itself the confidence comes over time.
